Results of QC

A total of 40 profiles (1323 data, reported by BATHY or TESAC) were received from the NORTHEWEST SANDERLING.
The results of JMA quality control are as follows.
  • Grounded test
  • Error data: 0 of 1323

  • Position on land test
  • On land: 0 of 40

    Invalid position: 0 of 40

  • Regional range test
  • Error data (low): 0 of 1323

Error data (high): 14 of 1323

  • Gradient test
  • Error data: 18 of 1323

For details of JMA's quality control procedures, please refer to this page.

Summary of QC

  • Some erroneous profiles are detected by JMA's automated quality control procedures. These are checked by the regional range test and the gradient test.
  • One of the observations at around 9°N is considered to be erroneous data.
  • There were differences above 2°C between the results of assimilation and a profile data observed at depths of between 50 and 200m in the seas south from 4°N. It's to be noted that the results of assimilation is considered to be less accurate in the marginal seas.
  • With the exception of the above errors and differences, there were no significant biases in comparison with the results of assimilation by JMA.
