Results of QC

A total of 84 profiles (40035 data, reported by BATHY or TESAC) were received from the HORIZON ENTERPRISE.
The results of JMA quality control are as follows.
  • Grounded test
  • Error data: 0 of 40035

  • Position on land test
  • On land: 0 of 84

    Invalid position: 0 of 84

  • Regional range test
  • Error data (low): 0 of 40035

Error data (high): 0 of 40035

  • Gradient test
  • Error data: 0 of 40035

For details of JMA's quality control procedures, please refer to this page.

Summary of QC

  • QC detected no unnatural profiles.
  • Among the data that passed JMA's automated quality control procedures, some "hitting bottom" data are found in the seas near the west coast of the United States(Refer to concerned figures). The topography used our grounded test is too rough to catch the error.
  • There are differences above 2°C between observation data and the results of assimilation at depths of between 20 and 250m. The observation data shows sharper thermocline better than the assimilation data.
  • Some observations at around 125°W are considered to be erroneous data.
  • With the exception of the above errors and differences, there are no significant biases in comparison with the results of assimilation by JMA.
