Notes:

  • In the ray-matching technique, AHI (monitored data) and VIIRS (reference data) are displayed on Y- and X-axes, respectively, in regression. As these axes are opposite to those of the vicarious calibration approach, the increasing/decreasing trends seen with ray-matching are also opposite.
  • Daily trends determined from ray matching (indicated by the blue “x” marks in the time series) exhibit variability because the number of collocations varies considerably from day to day.
  • For the periods shown below, scatter plots are not shown and time-series graphs exhibit discontinuity. VIIRS data for this technique are downloaded from the NASA CLASS website daily, but data retrieval failure was also observed during these periods.
    * 9 Mar. - 4 Sep. 2017, 14 Sep. - 4 Oct. 2017, 12 Dec. 2017 - 9 Jan. 2018, 17 Jan. - 11 Feb. 2018
  • Himawari-9 results include data from in-orbit testing in Feb. 2017 and other non-operational observations (e.g., health-check operation) during the standby period.
