Results of QC

A total of 58 profiles (1939 data, reported by BATHY or TESAC) were received from the NORTHEWEST SANDERLING.
The results of JMA quality control are as follows.
  • Grounded test
  • Error data: 0 of 1939

  • Position on land test
  • On land: 0 of 58

    Invalid position: 0 of 58

  • Regional range test
  • Error data (low): 0 of 1939

Error data (high): 5 of 1939

  • Gradient test
  • Error data: 0 of 1939

For details of JMA's quality control procedures, please refer to this page.

Summary of QC

  • QC detected some unnatural profiles shown in 'Results of QC'.
  • There were large differences at depths of between 40 and 300 m in areas south of 11°N. The observation data showed sharper thermocline better than the assimilation data.
  • Among the data that passed JMA's automated quality control procedures, some "hitting bottom" data were found in the seas around 6°N (Refer to concerned figures). The topography used for our grounded test was too rough to catch the error.

Vertical profile of temperature along the observing line of PX11 moved the entire profile by 5 degree Celsius.

Dots and error bars represent the averages and root mean squares of the differences, respectively. Crosses represent the maximum/minimum differences.
