Results of QC

A total of 264 profiles (119122 data, reported by BATHY or TESAC) were received from the ANL WARRNAMBOOL.
The results of JMA quality control are as follows.
  • Grounded test
  • Error data: 118 of 119122

  • Position on land test
  • On land: 0 of 264

    Invalid position: 0 of 264

  • Regional range test
  • Error data (low): 0 of 119122

Error data (high): 0 of 119122

  • Gradient test
  • Error data: 60 of 119122

For details of JMA's quality control procedures, please refer to this page.

Summary of QC

  • QC detected some unnatural profiles shown in 'Results of QC'.
  • Among the data that passed QC, some "hitting bottom" data were found in the seas near the west coast of the United States (Refer to concerned figures 1) and the north coast of New Zealand's North Island (Refer to concerned figures 2) . The topography used for our grounded test is too rough to catch the error.
  • There were large differences at depths of between 30 and 60 m in the seas around 10°N. The observation data shows deeper mixed layer than the assimilation data.

Dots and error bars represent the averages and root mean squares of the differences, respectively. Crosses represent the maximum/minimum differences.
