Results of QC

A total of 89 profiles (40200 data, reported by BATHY or TESAC) were received from the HORIZON ENTERPRISE.
The results of JMA quality control are as follows.
  • Grounded test
  • Error data: 0 of 40200

  • Position on land test
  • On land: 0 of 89

    Invalid position: 0 of 89

  • Regional range test
  • Error data (low): 0 of 40200

Error data (high): 0 of 40200

  • Gradient test
  • Error data: 4 of 40200

For details of JMA's quality control procedures, please refer to this page.

Summary of QC

  • QC detected some unnatural profiles shown in 'Results of QC'.
  • Among the data that passed QC, some "hitting bottom" data were found in the seas near the west coast of the United States (Refer to concerned figures 1) and between Oahu and Molokai (Refer to concerned figures 2) . The topography used for our grounded test is too rough to catch the error.
  • At the depths between 180 m and 240 m in the seas around 145°W, there were differences above 2°C between observation data and the results of assimilation.
