Satellite Operation Plan for Himawari-8/9
In order to provide continuous observation, JMA successfully launched Himawari-8 in October 2014 and began its operation in July 2015. To ensure the robustness of the satellite observation system, JMA also launched Himawari-9 in November 2016 and began its stand-by operation in March 2017. JMA will continueto operate Himawari-8 and -9 at around 140.7 degrees east covering the East Asia and Western Pacific regions, as with the GMS and MTSAT series.
Himawari-9 started full operation and Himawari-8 started stand-by operation on 13 December 2022.
