Switchover of the Operational Satellite

• Full operation of Himawari-9 started.
  And operation of Himawari-8 as a backup for Himawari-9 started. (13 December 2022)


• Full operation of Himawari-9 will start at 05:00 (UTC) on 13th December 2022. (11 November 2022)


• The Japan Meteorological Agency plans to switch operation from its Himawari-8 satellite to its Himawari-9 unit on 13th December 2022.
  A separate announcement will be made in due course. (23 June 2022)


• Switchover of the operational satellite from Himawari-8 to Himawari-9 is planned around December 2022. The switchover date will be announced on this website as it is determined. (2 February 2022)
