In February 1999, JMA, co-sponsored by Japan's Ministry of Transport and WMO, held the Second International Seminar on Monitoring Network for Greenhouse Gases in Asia and the Pacific Region in Tokyo as an important QA/SAC activity for Asia and the South-West Pacific. Experts from China, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam and the WMO Secretariat discussed greenhouse gas observations in the region and enhancement of the regional observation network. At the end of the seminar, they summarized the present status of and future prospects for the regional observation network of greenhouse gases, including CO2 and CH4.
An expert from JMA visited the China GAW Baseline Observatory at Mt. Waliguan in Qinghai Province and the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS) in Beijing from 31 October to 11 November 1999 as a QA/SAC activity. He held discussions with experts from the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) on the observation of greenhouse gases, in particular the quality assurance and management of observation data and data reporting to the WMO WDCGG. The discussions also covered future cooperative activities between CMA and JMA on greenhouse observation.
Dr.Tan Jie from the CAMS visited JMA and the Meterological Research Institute in Tsukuba for cooperative research from 19 February to 3 March 2001. He discussed issues such as measurements and quality control of greenhouse gas data with experts from JMA.
Drs. Zhao Yanliang and Wang Xiaobai from the ozone observatory in Beijing visited JMA and the Aerological Observatory in Tsukuba for cooperative research from 11 to 16 March 2002. They discussed the issues of measurement, quality control of total ozone data, and future intercomparison/calibration of instruments with experts from JMA.
From 22 to 27 October 2009, two experts from the Hong Kong Observatory, Dr. Tsui Kit Chi and Mr. Tam Kwong Hung, visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on greenhouse gas measurements and discussed further technical cooperation in the monitoring of greenhouse gases and other GAW parameters with the experts from JMA and MRI.
From 15 to 20 November 1999, an expert from JMA visited the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) and its new GAW station, Anmyeon-do. During his visit to the Republic of Korea, Korean and Japanese experts agreed on future cooperation in GAW observation, including the management of greenhouse gas observation data.
From 20 to 26 June 2000, two experts from KMA, Messrs. Shin Do-shik and Chung Sung-Rae, visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on standard gases for greenhouse gas measurements and discussed further technical cooperation in the monitoring of a variety of GAW parameters including greenhouse gases, ozone and aerosols with the experts from JMA.
From 6 to 10 October 2003, three experts from KMA, Drs. Kim Seong-Kyoun, Kim Joeng-Sik and Choi Jae-Cheon, visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on the current status of observation of greenhouse gases, ozone and aerosols, and discussed further technical cooperation with the experts from JMA.
From 4 to 8 October 2004, three experts from KMA, Drs. Choi Jae-Cheon, Cha Joo-Wan and Park Ki-Jun, visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on standard gases for greenhouse gas measurements and discussed further technical cooperation in the monitoring of a variety of GAW parameters including greenhouse gases, ozone and aerosols with the experts from JMA.
From 16 to 20 July 2007, two experts from KMA, Ms. Kim Myoung-Soo and Dr. Kim Sang-Baek, visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on greenhouse gas measurements and discussed further technical cooperation in the monitoring of a variety of GAW parameters including greenhouse gases with the experts from JMA and MRI.
From 12 to 14 May 2009, two experts from KMA, Drs. Kim Sang-Baek and Goo Tae Young, visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on greenhouse gas measurements and discussed further technical cooperation in the monitoring of a variety of GAW parameters including greenhouse gases with the experts from JMA and MRI.
From 24 to 28 May 2010, three experts from KMA, Drs. Kim Seong-Joong, Park Il-Hwan and Lee Young Ho, and one expert from KRISS, Dr. Lee Jeong-soon, visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on greenhouse gas measurements and discussed further technical cooperation in the monitoring of a variety of GAW parameters including greenhouse gases with the experts from JMA and MRI.
From 8 to 11 December 2014, three experts from KMA, Dr. Bokhaeng Heo, Dr. Chulkyu Lee, Mr. Hongwoo Choi, visited JMA and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on greenhouse gas measurements and discussed further technical cooperation in the monitoring of a variety of GAW parameters including greenhouse gases with the experts from JMA and MRI. From 1 to 14 November 2004, an expert on ozone layer observations from JMA visited the ozone observatory of Yonsei University in Seoul in cooperation with KMA. During his visit to Korea, he calibrated the Dobson spectrophotometer of the observatory and trained Korean experts on measurements and the maintenance of intsruments for ozone layer observations.
From 24 July to 5 August 2006, an expert on ozone layer observations from JMA visited the ozone observatory of Yonsei University. During his visit to Korea, he performed necessary technical guidance for automation of the Dobson spectrophotometer.
Dr. Valery P. Sinyakov, head of the Issyk-Kul Station in Kyrgyzstan, visited JMA for cooperative research from 19 January to 9 February 2000. He discussed issues on greenhouse gas monitoring programmes, quality control of greenhouse gas monitoring data, improvement of data quality and cooperative activities for the future with experts from JMA.
From 14 to 20 January 2001, an expert from JMA visited the Cape Grim Baseline Air Pollution Station, the Bureau of Meteorology in Melborne and the Commonwealth Scienctific and Industrial Research Oraganization (CSIRO) in Aspendale. During his visit to Australia, Australian and Japanese experts discussed future cooperation in GAW observation, including the management of greenhouse gas observation data.
From 10 to 18 January 2002, an expert from JMA visited the GAW Global station at Bukit Kototabang on Sumatora Island and the Headquarters of the Bureau of Meteorology and Geophysics in Jakaruta. During his visit to Indonesia, Indonesian and Japanese experts discussed future cooperation in GAW observation, including the management of greenhouse gas observation data.
From 12 to 17 February 2003, an expert from JMA visited the under-construction GAW regional station at Danum Valley on Borneo Island and the Headquarters of the Malaysian Meteorological Service in Kuala Lumpur. During his visit to Malaysia, he discussed technical issues and future cooperation to build a monitoring station for greenhouse gas observations with Malaysian experts.
From 7 to 18 November 2005, an expert from Malaysia, Mr. Lim Sze Fook, visited JMA, MRI, and the GAW regional station at Ryori. They exchanged information on greenhouse gas measurements and discussed further technical cooperation in the monitoring of a variety of GAW parameters including greenhouse gases with the experts from JMA and MRI.
From 22 to 30 March 2004, a JMA expert on ozone layer observations visited the ozone observatory in Manila. During his visit to the Philippines, he trained Philippine experts on measurements and maintenance of intsruments for ozone layer observations, and also discussed issues such as data quality control.
