Temperature and precipitation anomalies in previous cooler SST events in the western tropical Pacific
The schematic charts below show typical anomaly patterns of surface temperature and precipitation for each season (boreal spring, summer, autumn and winter) in past cooler SST events in the western tropical Pacific.
Boreal spring (March through May) |
Boreal summer (June through August) |
Boreal autumn (September through November) |
Boreal winter (December through February) |

The "Detailed Charts" page shows anomaly patterns of three-month-mean temperature and three-month-total precipitation fields centered on each calendar month for previous warmer/cooler SST events in each of the three tropical areas with 5°x5°-grid representation, from which the schematic charts described above were derived.
Data and analysis method details are provided on the "Data and Analysis Method" page.
