Climate Report over Japan
Monthly Highlights
- Monthly sunshine durations were above normal and monthly precipitation amounts were below normal in most areas of eastern and western Japan, since high-pressure systems frequently covered the main islands of Japan, mostly in the beginning of November.
- Snowy conditions were experienced on the Sea of Japan side and lower temperatures were observed almost all over Japan from the middle to the end of the month in association with an enhanced northwest winter monsoon and cold-air outbreaks with low temperatures seen in the midwinter of Japan.
- Monthly sunshine durations were significantly below normal and monthly precipitation amounts were above normal in Okinawa/Amami, due to fronts and moist air inflow.
