Monthly Highlights
- Monthly mean temperatures were below normal in eastern and western Japan and monthly snowfall amounts were above normal on the Sea of Japan side of these regions since the regions were often affected by significant cold air. - Monthly precipitation amounts were significantly above normal on the Sea of Japan side of northern Japan and above normal on the Sea of Japan side of eastern Japan and in western Japan, Okinawa/Amami, since there were the periods affected by Asian winter monsoon and the periods affected by low pressure systems. - From 22th to 23th January, heavy snows were observed on the Pacific side of northern and eastern Japan due to the developed low pressure systems.
