Results of QC

A total of 295(129368 levels, reported by BATHY or TESAC) were received from the Jpo Scorpios.
The results of JMA quality control are as follows.
  • Grounded test
  • Error data: 0 of 129368

  • Position on land test
  • On land: 0 of 295

    Invalid position: 0 of 295

  • Regional range test
  • Error data (low): 0 of 129368

Error data (high): 207 of 129368

  • Gradient test
  • Error data: 13 of 129368

For datails of JMA's quality control procedures, please refer to this page.

Summary of QC

  • Some erroneous profiles are detected by JMA's automated quality control procedures. These are checked by the regional range test and the gradient test, but the true cause will be, "hitting bottom" or "exceeding the guaranteed depth of observation" of XBT.
  • The observation data has deeper mixed layer and sharper thermocline than the assimilation data in the seas south from 15°N.
  • With the exception of the above errors and differences, there was no significant bias in comparison with the results of assimilation by JMA.
