Results of QC

A total of 113(2062 levels, reported by BATHY or TESAC) were received from the Cg Sycamore.
The results of JMA quality control are as follows.
  • Grounded test
  • Error data: 4 of 2062

  • Position on land test
  • On land: 0 of 113

    Invalid position: 0 of 113

  • Regional range test
  • Error data (low): 0 of 2062

Error data (high): 388 of 2062

  • Gradient test
  • Error data: 107 of 2062

For datails of JMA's quality control procedures, please refer to this page.

Summary of QC

  • Some erroneous profiles are detected by JMA's automated quality control procedures. These are checked by the grounded test, the regional range test and the gradient test. The main cause will be "exceeding the guaranteed depth of observation" of XBT.
  • One of the observations at around 32°N, 155°W is considered to be erroneous data.
  • There were differences above 3°C between observation data and the results of assimilation at around 22°N and 28°N at a depth of around 200 m.
  • With the exception of the above errors and differences, there was no significant bias in comparison with the results of assimilation by JMA.
