Results of QC

A total of 186(83471 levels, reported by BATHY or TESAC) were received from the Jrs Canis.
The results of JMA quality control are as follows.
  • Grounded test
  • Error data: 0 of 83471

  • Position on land test
  • On land: 0 of 186

    Invalid position: 0 of 186

  • Regional range test
  • Error data (low): 0 of 83471

Error data (high): 0 of 83471

  • Gradient test
  • Error data: 7 of 83471

For datails of JMA's quality control procedures, please refer to this page.

Summary of QC

  • Some erroneous profiles are detected by JMA's automated quality control procedures. These are checked by the regional range test and the gradient test, but the true cause will be, "hitting bottom" or "exceeding the guaranteed depth of observation" of XBT.
  • There were differences above 2°C between observation data and the results of assimilation at around 162°W at a depth of around 200 m.
  • With the exception of the above errors, there was no significant bias in comparison with the results of assimilation by JMA.
