Climate Report over Japan

<< prev      next >>

Seasonal Highlights

- Seasonal mean temperatures were significantly above normal in northern/eastern/western Japan, and above normal in Okinawa/Amami, because warm-air frequently covered the region. In particular, seasonal mean temperatures were the highest on record for spring since 1946 in northern/eastern Japan. The seasonal anomaly of the average temperature over Japan was +1.59 ℃ (the warmest for the season since 1898).
- Seasonal precipitation amounts were significantly above normal on the Sea of Japan side of western Japan and above normal on the Sea of Japan side of eastern Japan and on the Pacific side of western Japan, because low-pressure systems and fronts brought heavy rains in the regions. On the other hand, seasonal precipitation amounts were below normal in Okinawa/Amami, because the regions were less affected by low-pressure systems and fronts.
- Seasonal sunshine durations were above normal nationwide due to high-pressure systems that frequently covered the regions. In particular, seasonal sunshine durations were significantly above normal on the Sea of Japan side of northern/eastern Japan.
