Climate Report over Japan

<< prev      next >>

Monthly Highlights

- Monthly precipitation amounts were significantly above normal on the sea of Japan side of northern Japan, which was repeatedly affected by low pressure systems and fronts, and on the Pacific side of eastern Japan, which was affected by troughs and moist air on some days.
- Monthly sunshine durations were significantly above normal on the Pacific side of western Japan and above normal on the Pacific side of northern Japan, the sea of Japan side of western Japan, and in Okinawa/Amami, and monthly precipitation amounts were below normal in western Japan and Okinawa/Amami because these regions were frequently covered with high pressure systems.
- Strong cold air inflow in late December resulted in heavy snowfall on the sea of Japan side of northern, eastern, and western Japan, and temperature fluctuations were significant over Japan.
