Highlight

  • Seasonal mean temperatures were extremely high from southern Eastern Siberia to western Japan, from eastern China to southern Central Asia, from Southeast Asia to southern India, from central Europe to central Western Africa, from northern Madagascar to the southwestern Indian Ocean, from northern to western Canada, from the southern USA to central South America, and in eastern Australia.
  • Seasonal precipitation amounts were extremely high from southern Central Siberia to northern Mongolia, in and around central Europe, in northeastern Algeria, from southeastern Canada to the northeastern USA, in the western USA, and in and around southwestern Argentina.
  • Seasonal precipitation amounts were extremely low from western Mongolia to northern China, from southern Canada to the northern USA, and from the southern USA to northern Mexico.

  • It was reported that hot weather caused 94 fatalities due to heat stroke in Japan (Fire and Disaster Management Agency of Japan, as of 29 September).
  • The seasonal mean temperature in Japan in summer (from June to August) was the highest on record for this season since 1898 (Japan Meteorological Agency).
  • The seasonal mean temperature in Russia in summer (from June to August) was the third highest on record for this season since 1891 (Hydrometcenter of Russia).
